CREATIVITY IS THE NEW SCIENCE!

Epic Games team up with Travis Scott for a live virtual concert on the popular gaming platform 'Fortnite'.

We are living in a time where rap concerts and digital video games are blending seamlessly and the known walls of creativity and art are constantly being shattered. Music, graphics, photography and art are all fast-changing.

It’s no secret that the world is slowly being taken over by creative minds that see things in ways that would have been considered unorthodox last week! The ability to see beyond one’s time and provide a different perspective in whatever craft, has birthed some of the greatest minds and outlandish creations to date. The silhouette for success and dynamism has fled from the standard professions and as a result the amount of self-taught content creators has skyrocketed with the quality and variety not being compromised by the sheer volume.

Southern Africa has become a melting pot for diverse talents and a new wave of ferocious young minds with an atomic work ethic, itching to etch their names in the History Books.

Zeroing in on Zimbabwe, some remarkable young people are slowly taking the spotlight and pushing through the boundaries and barriers of economic limitations to become household names in this creative industry, cementing the foundations of empires to come.

DONTBLINK: How a pharmacy student with an interest in clothing push started a fast growing brand.

Dontblink is slowly developing an underground cult following with the carefree aesthetics and the artistic appeal of the clothing and branding drawing in a lot of people. A South Africa-based Pharmacy student popularly known as Tate is one of people at the forefront of Dontblink.

“It all started off as me just wanting to make cool stuff for me and my friends to wear”

Drawing inspiration from Kanye West, Tate started the creative process behind what is gearing up to become a huge brand both in SA and Zimbabwe with the simple intent of making a few items for himself and a few companions. A few months down the line and Dontblink is now retailing to a growing market. They have successfully captured social media and created a truly unique brand that is fast becoming recognizable. The mind-set behind one of Dontblink’s main figures is what makes the brand so authentic and relatable:

“I want someone to see what I’m doing and they can take that and create something of their own, whatever that may be and basically bring people together through clothes.”

If you’re not riding the wave yet ‘Dontbink’!

MEGAPICSOULS MEDIA HOUSE: From the high school soccer pitch to being the founder of an influential, self-run media company, all while completing a business degree at Stellenbosch.

From his cheerful demeanor and his calm aura one might mistake Luca Joseph Toronga for a 'regular Joe' but with careful probing into the mind of the MegaPicSouls founder one will find a couple of exceptional qualities. Luca started off, as many young people often do, with a one-dimensional goal: to play football, make it into his university team and kick off into the sunset, but as is common for a lot he found himself in a different boat than he originally intended. He found himself in a second gap year and began to explore different avenues. Thus began his metamorphosis into the "that camera-guy" that many are now familiar with today.

Driven by passion Luca Joseph Toronga started learning about content creation and following the works of renowned creators like Peter Mckinnon in 2017. He carefully dissected the craft and learnt all about it even before he owned a camera.

A few years down the line and he has established a fast expanding media company. His rise and continual growth is fueled by his aggressive 'never-stop-grinding' mindset.

Luca deliberately chose to avoid mainstream education that directly links to his passion of photography and content creation for a completely unconventional route:

"When it comes to creation, it's something that improves with practice. Mainstream education specifically for such areas keeps us in a box as creators (there's absolutely nothing wrong with going that route) but we need a space where we can breathe and are free to express ourselves with no limits and boundaries."

Luca is currently doing his BCOM with the motive of understanding the business side of running his own company. He has developed a winning formula for the success of his business, his main driver is passion and ultimately fun.

"I want to be able to run a company that offers the same amount of freedom that I'm hunting for right now. I don't want to be stuck behind a desk. Anyone who will collaborate with me should experience that same amount of fun. I want to come together with other creators and create a symphony, and be free from the bondage of a typical work environment."

Right at the bottom of all his flyers and certain product Luca Joseph writes "Established Everyday". Rather than take pride in the longevity of his company he takes pride in the dynamic and constant reformulation of his work. Luca's ultimate vision is nothing negligible. His long term goal and promise is to spearhead the biggest media company to ever come out of Zimbabwe and with a mindset like his it is not a goal that is too far from reach for the young photographer. Luca playfully narrates how he spends more time on his passion than on actual school all while managing to keep the grades up. For him paying the bills is important but love for the craft is what drives him to commit the time that he devotes to content creation.

"I will never be a professional because that insinuates that I have reached a ceiling but there is always room to learn and grow. When all else is said and done God is in control"

PINEAPPLE SATI: A brand new voice that's taking over our playlists and our moods.

Many people are hopping onto the alternative hip hop wave but not as many are as talented as Thabiso Khumalo, popularly known as Pineapple Sati. The Harare born, Bulawayo based artist started toying around with the idea of making music during his high school days where his best friend subconsciously nudged Thabiso into the music scene.

"I didn't start making music until my best friend dropped a song back in form 2 and it was a Jay Z cover. From that point onward I knew I wanted to start writing.I decided to put my story on instrumentals." And just like that Pineapple Sati began his rapid rise to a respected artistry. Releasing his first single Don't play on Soundcloud in 2016 during his O'Level year he immediately went viral amassing 4000 plays in just three days on the platform, a truly remarkable feat for the then rookie. He followed that drop a year later with a song titled 1999

that also did impressive numbers, amassing 2000 plays in just days.

The rapper took a break from dropping music and in that time he matured his sound and found his identity as Pineapple Sati.

"During this time I came up with the name Pineapple Sati which comes from my favorite fruit and a name I was given by my friend, I just put the two together and boom! I also made the song Yellow Tape Kitty and a whole bunch of songs that I will be releasing in the near future. Yellow Tape Kitty is a love song with a 'turnt' vibe to it. The fusion was created by the blending of intense 808's and sweet melodic samples used by the producer YouAre."

As the 20 year old cultivates his music career he's also studying Property Development and Estate Management at the National University of Science and Technology in Bulawayo. Thabiso pledges that 2020 is the year that he begins the takeover which to our delight means more music and more content from the Artist.

"I'm genuinely looking forward to dropping new music and expanding my horizons. But definitely it's on site. The takeover is coming!

The future is in colorful hands and these are just the tip of the talent iceberg that is yet to melt and fill the globe with all sorts of next-level creations and ideas.

Watch out!
